❧ On the road again
We spotted what looked like the perfect ambush spot and marched right into it. Okay, so looking back on it, might’ve been smarter to steer clear, but we thought we could pull off the ol’ “pretend to be cultists” routine and stroll on through. Turns out, these particular cultists were decked out in armor and uniforms. They weren’t buying our act one bit and just came at us swinging.
There were too many of them, so we hightailed it outta there.
Three horsemen gave chase, so we decided to make a stand. We took them down and nabbed their horses to put some distance between us and them. About half a mile before we reached the main cultist camp, we set the horses free and stashed their saddles. Took a breather to catch our wind and let Kalama tinker with that headband she found.
Turns out, it’s a communication device! The main gem stays on the headband, and there are four others that you can hand out to folks. Anyone with a gem can join in on a sort of “party line” for 24 hours. Luckily, it’s just directed thoughts, so they can’t hear every stray idea flitting through your head. Kalama handed out the gems, keeping the primary for herself.
