29 Mitul thru 4 Kythorn 1493
❧Phandalin
morning, 29 Mirtul
Sildar Hallwinter got in touch not long back, saying he had a job for us. We met up in Phandalin, and he laid it out for us: he needed a message taken to some John Smith in Baldur’s Gate. The catch? He’s a big shot now on the Town Council, so he can’t just up and leave town, especially with all them bandits causing trouble on the roads. He could’ve sent a regular messenger, but who knows what’d happen to them! So, he offered us 50 gold pieces right then and there, and another 50 when we delivered the message. Well, we were itching for some action, so we grabbed our gear and hit the road!
❧High Road
We took a minute to figure out the best way to reach Baldur’s Gate and figured a boat from Neverwinter would be the way to go. So, with our packs on our backs, we headed north on High Road toward Neverwinter. It’s about a 4-day hike, so I’m thankful I wore my good boots!
On the third day, we ran into a bunch of goblins! Those little guys pack a punch, but they were no match for The Wandering Weirdos! After a tough scuffle, we relieved them of their gear and kept on trekking to Neverwinter.
❧Neverwinter
afternoon, 3 Kythorn, 1489
When we arrived in Neverwinter, we took a moment to unload the loot we’d gotten from the goblins. Sadly, we only managed to get 7 silver pieces for the whole lot! To be fair, the gear wasn’t exactly top-notch. On a brighter note, Kalama stumbled upon a merchant selling some fantastic stuff. She traded one of our diamonds for both a bag of holding and a portable hole! She also splurged about 500 gold pieces on a Decanter of Endless Water, which is a lifesaver when you’re hauling around water. As for me, I was just picking up some travel rations when I spotted a set of enchanted armor that I couldn’t resist—the Plate Armor of Fire Resistance. It set me back 1,400 gold pieces, but hey, who can put a price on being able to shrug off fire? Plus, it’s shiny!
After our shopping spree, we made our way to the docks to find a ship heading to Waterdeep. The captain of the Sea Sprite had a few spots open, but we’d have to bunk with the crew for the 5-day journey. The fare is 700 gold pieces for all of us, but we might get a discount if we help defend the ship from bandits. We’re pretty confident we can handle that!
With our passage secured, we decided to hit the Boar & Stag for some drinks and gossip. Well, most of us did—Lhel, of course, disappeared to meditate. Monks, right? The gossip mostly revolved around the increase in bandit activity and the recent plague. Sadly, we didn’t learn anything particularly juicy, so we called it a night and hit the hay.
