❧Do Dragonkin normally explode?

Afternoon

That fight with Rezmir was rough. And who’d have thought a damned rug would be one of the biggest problems? Thing kept tanglin’ up Kalama ‘til we finally put Rezmir down. Would’ve been a tough enough scrap on its own, but that blasted magic barrier split our group in two, makin’ everything harder. Then we find out our headband didn’t work in Rezmir’s room. Figures.

Not even sure she’s really dead, if I’m honest. When we struck the final blow, she just… burst into dust. No body to check, no blood, nothin’. And the fancy metal box sittin’ on her desk? Vanished, same as her.

Didn’t have much time to dwell on it, though, ‘cause the warlock got so riled up he slammed his staff on the bedframe—snapped it clean in two! Next thing we knew, there was this blinding light, and poof—he was gone, just disappeared into the Ether. Right after that, we had to deal with the last enemy standing—a drake—but both Demdoo and Kalama were already down. Lhel took care of the drake fast, then got Demdoo back on his feet while I worked to keep Kalama breathin’. Once Demdoo was up, he hit us all with a prayer of healing, and we started piecing ourselves back together.

Gotta admit, for a second there, it was real tense. Not just ‘cause of the fight, but ‘cause Kalama’s disguise dropped, and Demdoo saw her for what she is—a Dragonborn. And turns out, Demdoo really hates anything draconic. For a moment, it looked like he might just leave her to bleed out. Took some convincing, but we got him to see she ain’t like these cultists, and he finally healed her up too.

Once things settled, we barred the door best we could and started searchin’ the place. Found a couple of keys on the desk and a greatsword in the ashes where Rezmir used to be. Then it was time for a little heart-to-heart with Demdoo.

‘Round then, it finally hit me—the damn castle had taken off while we were busy fightin’ and pokin’ around. We were in the air! I’ll be keepin’ an eye out for a window tomorrow, that’s for damn sure.

❧Do Dragonkin normally explode?

Evening

He finally opened up, told us why he hates dragons so much. Turns out he’s from Star Mountains—his whole community, his family, everything was wiped out by dragons and their followers while he was away on some temple quest. Damn sad story. T-Bone didn’t share much, just said too many folks have lied to him and stabbed him in the back. Kalama also didn’t share much. Lhel let on that he was a monk under the Wandering Master of the Sun Spire before they got separated, and he fell in with us. I reckon the others already know most of my story by now.

Kalama, quick thinker that she is, swapped one of the faces on her mask and added Rezmir. So now she can turn into a human, an elf, a dwarf, and Rezmir herself. Could come in handy.

As for me, I checked on the little secret I got stashed away in my bag. Everything’s still right where it oughta be. Can’t wait to see the look on everyone’s faces when it’s ready.
