7 & 8 Eleint, 1493

❧Waterdeep

Seventhday, 7 Eleint

When we reached Waterdeep, the caravan split up with Jamna following the cultists. Our wagon pulled off to the side of the road so we could settle up. We got our 10gp each and the caravan leader let us know that Lasfelro was happy with our service. Luckily, this didn’t take long and we were able to catch sight of the Red Wizard’s wagon as he headed to the north side of the city.

Their wagon joined several other wagons at another warehouse in an area filled with construction supplies and covered wagons. Despite several cultists hanging around, appearing to be standing guard or something, we were able to peek into some of the wagons. Just like the crates on the caravan, they were filled with treasures.

We split up again to gather intel.

  • I went to chat with some of my old comrades among the city guards. Nobody seemed to know much about the cult, but my old captain said that one of the privates did see a half-dragon leading troops around the city a day or 2 ago.

  • We got to chatting about all the construction supplies we saw earlier. It turns out that Lord Neverember has decided to actually do something about High Road. That road was a dilapidated mess long before I was even born. It used to connect Neverwinter and Waterdeep, but when Neverwinter was destroyed,  the road fell to various criminals who doubtless didn’t care one wit about maintaining its condition.

  • It sounds like the road crews have been having a heck of a time getting workers and are desperately hiring just about anyone.

We took a quick pitstop to send a message to Frume with updates on everything we’ve learned so far. We made it a point to mention Jamna and the treasure warehouse. We finished off the missive by letting him know our plans to join the road crew caravan. Is 2gp a lot to send a message?

Around noon, Lhel noticed that the cultists were at a small warehouse. I stopped for lunch at a tavern that the local guard frequents but wasn’t really able to learn anything I didn’t already know. After lunch, we all agreed to regroup and apply for jobs at the large warehouse where they were recruiting for the road crew. We easily got on as guards for 1gp per day. It’s a 200-mile trip so that’s probably like 10 days.

We saved a bit of money that night by staying with my cousin. Don’t you worry, we brought her a bottle of liquor as a little host gift. I also got a chance to put some flowers on da’s grave. After that, we spent some time polishing our armor and sharpening our weapons. Well, that’s what I did, the others did whatever they do to prep their gear.

Eighthday, 8 Eleint

Before joining the road crew, Kalama found a False Life spell for 25gp so we snatched that up. As we got set up with our new positions in this new caravan, some of the cultists definitely recognized us and glared at us. There are 6 wagons, a dozen horses, and maybe 100 laborers making up this caravan. One wagon is noticeably newer than the rest and its driver is one of the cultists.

I’ll tell ya all about the trip next time, we’re getting ready to start moving and I need to pay attention so I don’t end up in a pond or something!
